Maryam Nawaz Sharif is a notable Pakistani politician as well as the 20th Chief Minister of Punjab. She is the 20th Chief Minister of Punjab and 1st ever woman to hold this position in Pakistan. She was born on October 28 in 1973, in Lahore, Punjab Pakistan. She is a Punjabi Kashmiri originated. She is the eldest daughter of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, a Pakistani Politician and Businessman. She  was included in the 100 Women list of BBC, influential women worldwide. She studied from the convent of Jesus and Mary, Lahore, from Pre-Nursery to Matric. She went to Lahore College. Later, she took admission in King Edward Medical College (KEMC) intending to pursue medicine, but was not able to complete it and got married at 19 Capt. Safdar. Later she pursues her studies and got a degree in English Literature.

She was pursuing a PhD in political science in 2012. In 2014, questioned were raised by the Lahore High Court regarding the validity of her master’s degree in English literature and her PhD. By 2018, she only submitted proofs pf her degree of English Literature. She did not submit anything regards her PhD to Election Commission.

Political Life of Maryam Nawaz

Maryam Nawaz Sharif began her political career in 2012. She collaborated with Pakistan Muslim League – N members it prepares packages for Punjab Women empowerment, then chief minister of Punjab. She initiated the Pink buses only for women. At the start of her career, she also visited educational institutions to give speeches. He did a lot of welfare work for the women of Punjab. During the time of election campaign of 2013 she remained out of spotlight. In the campaign, he played a very prominent role and got credited for it. After Nawaz Sharif into power and became the Prime Minister, she was appointed as to the chairperson of the Youth Program Her appointment was questioned by opposition parties. They also accused her of using the government’s money on herself. She then resigned.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif took media management duties in 2016 while her father was ill in the UK, which raised questions about her role. She was also in control of PML-N social platforms.  she was accused for dissenting bloggers in 2017. They were pressured to confess to running a blasphemous k page under the direction of the Research and Analysis Wing). Maryam Nawaz’s appointment was severely criticized by the seniors of the PML-N, causing concern over her ascendancy as second in command. She was considered a strong candidate against Hamza Shehbaz, disturbing his position. After her joining, many quit the PML-N because of her aggressive style. Despite skepticism about her leadership abilities due to limited experience, Maryam Nawaz Sharif organized rallies and mobilized party support against the PTI government. Once is stated that her entry into politics was driven by her desire to stand against oppression. On January 3, 2023, Maryam was appointed as Senior Vice President of the PML-N and Chief Organizer, tasked with restructuring the party.

Maryam as Chief Minister of Punjab

Maryam Nawaz participated in the election Pakistan Muslim League – N on January 12, 2024. marking herself as a first time contestant in general elections.  With margin of 83,855 votes She was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan. She became the sixth member, to be elected of Sharif’s family, to the parliament. She was nominated as PML-N’s candidate for Chief Minister of Punjab. On February 18, 2024, she began her duties as chief minister. She was inducted in on February 23, 2024 for receiving security protocols. After becoming the Prime Minister, she established 1^st public cancer hospital. She than introduced the controversial Punjab Defamation bill and completed her 1^st 100 days of government. She launched laptops and scholarship programs. the launch of h first airline project in the province ‘Air Punjab’, was approved by her.

Maryam Nawaz  on March 2017 was included  in the BBC’s 100 Women list, recognizing influential women worldwide. She was also featured on The New York Times list of 11 Powerful Women .She faced a lot off political scandals  and controversies like panama paper case and corruption.
