Manushi Chhillar is a model and actress who works in Hindi cinema. She was born in Rohtak, Haryana, India in the year 1997 on 14th May. She is the winner of the 2017 Miss World pageant. In the Femina Miss India 2017 pageant, she represented her state of Haryana. She took the title of Femina Miss India World 2017 home. After that, she went on to become the 6th Indian to be crowned Miss World. In New Delhi, her mother, Neelam Chhillar, works at the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences. She is a medical doctor and the departmental head of Neurochemistry in the institute. Her father, Mitra Basu Chhillar, is a physician. He served at the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Now in Mumbai, he is practicing regenerative medicine at Soma Wellness.
Education
Manushi Chhillar received her early education in New Delhi. She studied at St. Thomas’ School. She was an academically brilliant student. In class 12, she topped the India Central Board of Secondary Education in the English subject and scored 96% in the boards. In her 1st attempt, she cleared the All India Pre Medical Test. In Sonipat, she was pursuing a medical degree (MBBS) at the Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College, but quit it due to her career as an actor.
As a Rising Star
Manushi Chhillar’s pageant career began with Fashion Big Bazaar sponsored Campus Princess 2016, where she was a finalist from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. She then won Femina Miss India in the finale event hosted at the Yash Raj Film Studio in April 2017 and went on to win Miss World 2017. Her pageant journey also included being crowned Miss Photogenic during the Femina Miss India competition. Chillar was India’s 4th Beauty with a Purpose winner.
Awards and Recognitions
Special Achievement Award at the 2017 CNN-IBN Indian of the Year Awards for winning the Miss World crown. In 2017, the top-trending Indian Google search was her. In Pushkar 10th C4IO by Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, she was the guest speaker. She appeared in SET India‘s television special, Super Nights With Padman, to promote her project. In 2018, Manushi Chhillar was voted the Most Desirable Woman in India in a Times of India online survey. In 2019, she was recognized as the “Sexiest Vegetarian Personality” in India by PETA. In 2019, in the Lokmat Stylish Awards she won for the category in Fresh Face. She won Super Stylish Emerging Talent (Female) in Pink villa Style Icons Awards in 2022 She was nominated for Most Stylish Trailblazer in Bollywood Hungama Style Icons in the year 2023.
Other than Acting
In 2017, Manushi Chhillar was the celebrity speaker at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad. She became the brand ambassador for Anaemia Free Haryana. She is also known for her Beauty with a Purpose project, “Shakti”, which focused on menstrual hygiene. Her project was funded by the government with about ₹18 crore. She collaborated with the Government of Telangana for a feminine hygiene awareness campaign and worked with NGOs like Aakar Innovations to create low-cost sanitary pads. She also visited a slum area in Kolkata to distribute sanitary pads and promote menstrual hygiene.
Her international travels included a visit to Indonesia, where she participated in humanitarian activities in 2018. In the British Virgin Islands, she helped raise funds for a local beauty with a purpose project. In the United States, she was a presenter and performer at a telethon and received an award at a South Asian Women Empowerment gala. In Brazil, she initiated an awareness program on leprosy and advocated for an APAE project focused on children with Down Syndrome. She visited South Africa to install machines that manufacture low cost sanitary pads in Mvezo. She also inaugurated the first sanitary pad manufacturing unit in South Africa with the South African President. Additionally, she attended various events, including the presentation of a documentary in Cannes, Miss World America 2018, and Miss World Philippines 2018. She crowned Vanessa Ponce of Mexico as her successor at the Miss World 2018 pageant in Sanya, China.
As an Actor
Manushi Chhillar with Yash Raj Films signed a 3-film contract. In 2022, she made her debut with the film Samrat Prithviraj as the Princess of Kannauj, where she played princess Sanyogita. In 2023, she was cast in a comedy movie, The Great Indian Family, co with Vicky Kaushal. Both her films were box office failures, and her acting was also criticized.
In the year 2024, she portrayed a character of a wing commander opposite Varun Tej, named Operation Valentine, a Hindi-Telugu bilingual. Later in 2024, Chillar starred in the film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The movie received negative reviews, but it was a box office bomb. She will next be seen in the movies Maalik and Tehran.
