Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi is a former cricketer, philanthropist, and politician in Pakistan. He was born in Lahore, on October 5, 1952. He is of Pathan origin, the only son of Ikramullah Khan Niazi and Shaukat Khanum. He studied at Cathedral School and Aitchison College. He graduated from Keble College, Oxford. He studied here philosophy, politics, and economics, He used to play for the Colts hockey in 1960. He then arrived at Royal Grammar School, Worcester in September 1971. He excelled at cricket there. Paul Hayes was the reason behind facilitating his entrance.  He was the 18th president of Pakistan. Founder and former chairman of the Political party Tehreek e Insaf. Imran khan was considered the most eligible bachelor during the 1980s and 1990s. He had various relationships but got married to Jemima Goldsmith in 1995. He had two sons with his former wife.

Imran Khan as a Cricketer and Captain of Pakistan

Imran Khan made his debut at the age of 16. During the 1970’s he started playing for his hometown, Lahore. He also played for the Blues Cricket team from 1973 to 1975 at Oxford University. He played between 1971 and 1976.  His debut was against England in 1971. He played his first ODI in 1974 against England.  He learned Reverse swing from Sarfaraz Nawaz, the founder of that technique. He became he highest wicket taker in test matches in 1982. He recorded his best Test bowling figures by taking 8 wickets for 58 runs against Sri Lanka. He became the captain of the Pakistan cricket team in 1982. As a captain, he achieved a lot by playing. He got injured and was not able to play for Pakistan for 2 years. He came back in 1984 and played under the captaincy of Javed Miandad.  Javed Miandad chose not to be a captain, and he led the return of Imran khan as captain.

Imran khan was the mastermind behind reforming cricket umpiring. After getting frustrated with listening to continuous criticism of Pakistan. He led Pakistan to their 1st ever win in test cricket in India in 1987.  In 1989, he won the award of International Cricketer of the Year. He was the 1st Asian who secure this award. After becoming captain again. He has led 189 ODIs, 59 defeats, 75 victories, and a tie. Also led 48 test matches, 8 losing, 14 winning, and 26 draws. He made the world record as a captain who secured the most wickets. He led the cricket team of Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. He made the most runs and took the final winning wicket by himself. He retired as a cricketer after playing his last match against Sri Lanka in 1992.

Imran’s Life after Retirement

He served as a coach of the Pakistan cricket team at the demand of his friends. He appeared as the commentator of the Cricketer. In 2003, he became the chancellor of the University of Bradford. He was included in the Hall of Fame of Indians in 2009. He was removed from the position in 2014 due to his absence in 2014. He stated that it is due to his political involvement.

Imran Khan a Philanthropist

He established the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, His goal in memory of his mother in 1991. That hospital was providing affordable treatment to cancer patients. It was first built in Lahore than other cities. He founded Namal University. His focus was on sustainable development and entrepreneurship. He became the UNICEF Special Representative for sports. Where he supports health programs. His work was notable and he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asian Jewel Awards and the Jinnah Award. He did a lot of charity work.

Life as a Politician

During his cricket career, Zia ul Haq offered him a political position and to join PML-N, but he declined. Nawaz also invited him to join his party, with a guaranteed seat in parliament. He served as the Ambassador of Tourism of Moeenuddin Ahmad. He later in 1994, with ISI tried to launch a pressure group, but this venture did not last long. He founded the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on April 25, 1996. He chooses a bat as an electoral symbol. He ran as a PTI candidate in the National Assembly but lost in 1997. Later, he supported Pervez Musharraf, thinking he would support him and address corruption. In 2002, he participated in the general election a n became the only candidate of PTI to win a seat. In 2011, Lahore, he addresses a public gathering and addresses people’s challenges their policies of government.  According to the 2012 survey, PTI led in popularity with the vote 31%. In 2023, he promises to end war and uniform education system. On the rally in 2013, khan met with an accident but continued his campaign with a video link. PTI became the second-largest party in KPK.  After the election pledged to release a white paper and vowed to hold protests. 

22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan

On 18th August 2018, he became the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan. His party won the election. He emphasizes the governance, which is based on the Principle of the state of Medina. His government faces a lot of crises. Pakistan’s business environment improved, moving from 136th to 108th in global rankings, according to the 2020 report World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index. He works a lot on the environment and energy, as well as on Foreign policy, social issues, terrorism, etc.

Removal of Khan as Prime Minister

In 2020, the opposition played a role in removing him from office. Faces a lot of challenges, charges like corruption allegations of violating official secrets. PDM, a coalition of opposition parties united to conduct no non-violent movement against Imran Khan. He was ousted after ruling on 10 April deemed the rejection of a no-confidence vote. The vote passed in favor of his removal. Making him the first PM of Pakistan to be ousted by a no-confidence vote.
